4 Ways Reduce Stress the Morning of your Wedding
After months of planning, budgets, checklists, todos and more appointments than you could imagine; the wedding weekend is finally here.
You have family in town, may even be hosting them at your home. There are last minute errands, items to print or pickup, maybe even a quick Amazon order for those pens you wanted on your sign in table.
The week of the wedding is a whirlwind of emotions, excitement and nerves. Here are some tips to ensure the morning of your wedding runs smoothly, and what you can do ahead of time to prepare.
Wedding Day Survival Kit- Build an emergency kit for the morning of your wedding. Common items to include are:
Sewing Kit with different colored threads, needles, and buttons
Stain remover stick, safety pins, straight pins
Personal Items: Makeup remover wipes, floss, mints, mouth wash, deodorant spray, tampons, advil, stomach ache reliever, bobby pins, hair ties, bandaids
Phone charger
Photographer’s Detail Kit- This collection, which can be placed in a zip lock bag or your shoe box, contains all of the details and special pieces you’d like your photographer to photograph and style the day of. Common items include:
Full invitation suite, save the date, menu card, wedding program
Vow books, and ring box
Jewelry (rings, earrings, necklace), veil, bridal shoes, garter, perfume
Heirloom pieces
Decor- this could be fresh flowers, a styling mat, extra lace from your dress or other items you love (monogrammed robe, slippers, etc.)
Plan for food- The wedding day is a LONG day, so be sure you’re thinking of food and water throughout the “getting ready” portion of your day; for you, your bridesmaids and any vendors who may be onsite for more than 4 hours.
Order sandwich trays, fruit trays and other bite sized items to keep on hand in your suite. Be sure to stock up on plenty of water!
Gifts- plan ahead and don’t wait until the last minute!
If you’re giving any gifts the day of your wedding, such as to your spouse, parents, wedding party or vendors, plan ahead!
Write the thank you cards, wrap gifts and have everyone in one place for easy distribution
The week leading up to the wedding day can feel like a frenzy; prepare for these items ahead of time or ask your wedding party for assistance!
Remember to take time to rest, relax and enjoy!
Samantha & Kevin Gandy's Wedding in Houston
With a large family in attendance those couple managed to hug everyone to show their love and appreciation. A great idea she had that was incorporated into the end of the ceremony was a setup for those that are not able to be in attendance. Her mom is one of those in heaven and it was a beautiful way to show she in in their thoughts.

Weddings should be a combination of posed and candid moments. We want posed to look our best and candid to remember the best times of the night. My goal is to guide you through the day making you comfortable and confident to capture these.
Best Places for your Engagement Session: Downtown Houston
In preparation of my engagement sessions with couples, I like to sit down with them in advance and talk about their expectations, their love story, and what they’re envisioning for their engagement shoot.
These photos are often the first time that a couple is getting professional photos done, and guidance or suggestions to prepare are often helpful.
Be sure to discuss and coordinate your outfits. This doesn’t mean you need to “match” one another, but if you’re planning to wear a cocktail dress, your fiancé shouldn’t be wearing shorts.
Bring props; a bottle of champagne, your motorcycle, a pet; things you both love.
Consider timing; if you’re planning to use these images on your save the date, let me know ahead of time, so we can schedule the session accordingly.
Top Engagement Session Locations in Downtown Houston
The Sabine Street Bridge
This unique spot is quintessential Houston! With both downtown views, a beautiful bridge and quick access to the parks along the bayou, it’s a great spot for photos
The top of parking garages
I can’t divulge which specific parking garage (shh! It’s a secret!) but these shots are great if you’re looking for an edgy vibe, want downtown views directly in the background or want a classic black and white photo.
Main Street
With the rail in the background and a ton of local bars and restaurants for “lifestyle” shots, Main Street is a great option for a one-stop-multi-look shop. Street shots, unique building facades or perhaps a seat at the bar sharing a bottle of wine.
I can’t wait to help you capture your unique love story!

Planning a Destination Wedding? Here are 3 tips to consider
I’ve had the pleasure of working with countless couple who were planning a destination wedding and have gleaned some helpful tips over the years.
Why you should consider flying your favorite vendors in:
Mexico, the Bahamas, Caribbean Islands and other sandy destinations usually promote their local vendors at the popular resorts. While using some of these recommended vendors for food, beverage and floral or decor makes sense, I often still see couples flying in their Photographer, Videographer or even Hair and Makeup Artists.
Since your photographer plays such a vital role to the flow of the wedding day, being able to build the trust and rapport beforehand is so valuable.
In our pre-wedding consultation, we will review your wedding timeline, family photograph list, and any special moments or photos you’re envisioning.
2. What time and in which direction will the sun set?
Be sure to ask your Hotel Wedding Coordinator where the sun sets on the property, specific to the ceremony location you’re considering.
Since you usually have a few options for the ceremony and reception location, you may opt for one over the other depending on when and where the sun sets.
3. Appropriate Attire
One tip that I frequently hear from past couples, is the importance of planning appropriate attire.
Between the heat, humidity or uneven surfaces you may encounter for your aisle; be sure to think about and discuss the possible things you may run into.
High heels can be perfect for your reception entrance, but sandals may be best for your ceremony.
(oh, and everyone appreciates a fan when it’s going to be HOT!)
